Guipure collar

15" neckline, 3.75" deep
Excellent condition, just a few edge wrinkles.

This round collar resembles English Beds, but it is made of silk. Excellent technique, fine thread, bold design. I'm putting it in the 'Unknown Guipures' for the moment.

05/11/2020 This just in from Beds Lace teacher and author  Louise West:
The lace... my feeling is that it looks like it is more likely to be cluny, without being able to identify the techniques from the photos. The edge isn't the normal 9 pin seen on Beds, being without picots and the inner edge is very different too. Also the trails meander in and out rather worked in the normal Beds manner. I have an edging that has some of these characteristics in it and that was also worked in a silk and has been identified as Cluny rather than Beds. One of the main characteristics of cluny is the way the plaits enter and leave the trails to help to identify it. (usually a case for the magnifying glass to check on directions of the threads.) It is a lovely collar though and a nice find.
